Lakeitra “Miss Kiki” Ferguson
Born and raised in Pompano Beach, Florida, Lakeitra “Miss Kiki” Ferguson grew up in a close-knit family rooted in faith, resilience, and love. Raised in church and surrounded by community, much of her childhood was shaped by storytelling, strong family values, and the unwavering support of the women who helped raise her.
At just five years old, Lakeitra experienced one of the greatest heartbreaks of her life—losing her mother. While grief came early, so did love. Stepping in to help raise her were her grandmother and aunt, whose strength, guidance, and nurturing spirit became the foundation of who she would one day become. Their love showed her firsthand how deeply a caring adult can shape a child’s life, especially during difficult moments.
Although her childhood came with challenges, it also gave her something priceless: compassion, empathy, and a heart for children who simply need to feel safe, understood, and loved.
Growing up, Lakeitra always loved books. Stories became a place of comfort, imagination, and hope. Even as a little girl, she naturally gravitated toward helping children and dreamed of becoming a teacher. She often played “teacher” as a child, stepping into a role that—without realizing it at the time—was already preparing her for the purpose she would eventually walk into.
Life eventually shifted in ways she never expected.
As a single mother, Lakeitra discovered that purpose often reveals itself through the very experiences that stretch us most. Motherhood challenged her, strengthened her, and helped her realize something she had always carried within her: she was meant to make an impact on children’s lives.
Through raising her daughter, Kalyia, everything became clearer.
Like many parents, Lakeitra experienced the bedtime battles, endless questions, emotional moments, silly conversations, and teachable moments that come with childhood. But what stood out most was realizing how deeply children absorb the world around them—and how much they need love and guidance while trying to understand it.
It wasn’t only Kalyia who inspired her. Over the years, children naturally gravitated toward Lakeitra, lovingly calling her “Miss Kiki.” Whether through encouragement, laughter, support, or simply creating a space where kids felt comfortable being themselves, she became someone children trusted and felt safe around.
And that’s how Big Lessons for Little Hearts was born.
Created from a place of love, healing, motherhood, and purpose, Big Lessons for Little Hearts is more than a children’s book series—it is a mission to help children navigate life’s biggest lessons in ways that feel fun, comforting, relatable, and age-appropriate.
Through humor, imagination, storytelling, and meaningful moments, Lakeitra creates books that help children understand emotions, routines, kindness, confidence, curiosity, and everyday life lessons without feeling overwhelmed.
Her mission is deeply personal:
To help children feel safe, seen, and loved while learning life’s biggest lessons.
And for parents, she offers a reminder rooted in grace:
You do not have to have it all figured out. Parenting does not come with a perfect roadmap. As long as we are trying, showing up with love, and intentionally leading the next generation every day, we are already making an impact.
Today, through books, storytelling, school and library visits, family events, and community engagement, Lakeitra “Miss Kiki” Ferguson continues walking in the purpose that was planted in her heart long ago—helping little hearts grow through love, healing, and stories that matter.
Because sometimes the biggest lessons begin with the smallest hearts.
